Four Year Warhawk Starter

Mark began playing baseball in Colleyville, Texas.  He played Vienna Little League for the Dodgers and was a key player on their Championship teams and was a four-year All-star.  Mark played   five years  for the Vienna Mustangs.  Mark helped lead the 14 Year Old Mustangs  to a sixth place finish in the AAU National Championships. Following his freshman season he was the Mustangs' leading hitter during Old Dominion League play and hit well in the '03 National High School Championship in Louisville, KY. He continued to play for the Vienna Mustangs in the Old Dominion league the last two seasons and was named First Team All CABA 18U World Series team in Miami, FL last summer.

Mark has been a starting outfielder for the Varsity Warhawks since his freshman season. As a freshman, He was the offensive leader in the come-from-behind win over Centreville in the Regionals. He made two spectacular diving catches to end rallies and save the '03 Regional Championship win over Robinson including the Washington Post "Play of the Day" game-ending play. He had many key hits throughout the post season as the Warhawks repeated as '03 District and Regional Champions. As a sophomore outfielder, Mark was one of the key Warhawks that helped Madison claim the '04 Liberty District Regular Season and Tournament Championships again. Mark and his brother Matt were key players in the Regional and District Championships of '03 and '04. As a junior Mark had a great season and claimed First Team All-District honors batting .425 and stealing 15 bases in 15 attempts. He pitched a no-hit shut out against Fairfax and was 2-0 on the mound. The '05 Warhawks were young and did not reclaim the Championships which motivates Mark to lead the Warhawks back to Championship levels in '06. He is the last remaining player from the Regional Championship teams.

Mark's Baseball History

Mark's thoughts on the Season: "All four years come down to this final season and we are hoping to make it another one to remember."

Coach Gjormand on Mark: "Mark returns as a four-year starter for us in the outfield. Last November, Mark signed to play baseball at the University of Virginia beginning this fall. Mark returns to the front of our lineup and is without question one of the top returning players in Northern Virginia this spring. Mark is a very humble young man and is poised to lead the Warhawks into the 2006 campaign. This guy knows what it takes to get it done as he helped capture two district championships and one regional title at Madison. Obviously, I’m very proud of Mark’s accomplishments and the legacy he will leave behind at Madison. But the story is not complete yet. Stay tuned, it should be a great spring!"
