  Varsity Coach Profile

Joey is making his debut as a varsity assistant and as the Warhawks’ scout this season.  Joey played baseball in the area lettering twice while attending Herndon High School, helping the Hornets repeat as Concord District and Northern Region champions in 1996. Joey also coaches the Herndon Dawgs Industrial League team as a player / manager and compiled an 84-51-2 record over the past four years and won two fall ball league titles. He also will coach the 13 and Under Vienna Mustangs team this spring and summer.

Joey is a former sports editor at the Connection Newspapers, the former sports editor at the Observer Newspapers, and a former sports reporter at the Times Community Newspapers with ten years experience covering high school sports in Northern Virginia.

Since 2002, he has won seven Virginia Press Association Awards for sports writing. He plans on returning to school in the fall to complete his degree in Communications at Old Dominion University in Norfolk and then return to the area and teach high school journalism and coach baseball and basketball.

Joey’s thoughts regarding coaching at Madison: “ I couldn’t ask for more than to get my feet wet coaching with a fantastic coaching staff and some of the hardest-working ballplayers I’ve ever been around. Everything I heard about the Madison baseball program and the work ethic associated with it couldn’t be more true.”
