He played Vienna Little League for the Dodgers and was a key player on their Championship teams and was a four year all-star. Mark played two years for the Vienna Mustangs as their LHP ace, centerfielder and captain. Mark helped lead the 14 Year Old Mustangs into Nationals through Super Regionals and then to a sixth place finish in the AAU National Championships by pitching two complete game three-hit shut outs. Mark was the leading hitter during Old Dominion League play for the Mustangs and hit well in the National High School Championship in Louisville, KY. Mark earned the starting right field position and had a tremendous freshman season. He had two hits, scored two runs, including the winning run, and was the offensive leader in the come from behind win over Centreville in the Regionals. He made two spectacular diving catches to end rallies and save the Regional Championship win over Robinson including the Washington Post "Play of the Day" game ending play. He had many key hits throughout the post season as the Warhawks repeated as District and Regional Champions. Mark has been selected as a top prospect by Diamond King. Mark's thoughts on the Season: "We have a group of guys who 'know how' and want to work and 'know how' and want to win championships. That's what it takes to be successful." Coach Gjormand on Mark: "After breaking into the starting line-up before spring break of last season, Mark went on to have as good of a freshman year as you could have. Mark has recently been named a top prospect out of last year's freshman class by Baseball Coaches of America in conjunction with Baseball America. Mark is coming off of an off-season injury, but is quickly coming into form early on. I expect Mark to have an immediate impact for us this season, not just in the field but also on the mound. Defensively, I am not sure there is a better outfielder in the Region. At the plate, I look for Mark to hit in the top of our line up, where his power numbers should increase as he has gotten a year older and stronger. Mark is a very competitive young man with great character not just on the field, but in the class room and in the community."
