Joey started playing baseball in Reston, but began playing in Vienna at a young age. He played Vienna Little League in the Twins organization and was all-star each year. Joey was a key member for the 13 year old Vienna Mustangs and returned as a 14 year-old captain  to help lead the team to a sixth place finish in the AAU National Championship in Orlando, FL. He played with the 15 year old Mustangs last summer and joined the Old Dominion League team late in the summer.

At Madison, Joey played for the Warhawks JV team as a freshman infielder and right handed pitcher. He has worked hard in the off-season and played with members of the Varsity team last fall on the Mustangs to prepare himself as he joins the varsity Warhawks as a sophomore infielder.

Joey's  thoughts on the Season: "The hard work in the off-season and during our practices will get this team back to where it has been the past two years."

Coach Gjormand on Joey: "Joey is a very promising sophomore talent for us. After earning the starting job at third base as a freshman on the JV team last season, he has worked very hard to take his game to the next level. Joey has a great attitude and wants to do anything he can to help the team get better. Joey's swing has improved dramatically and with added bulk to his frame, shows great power at the plate for a young player. He has very good hands and a strong arm. He gives us young depth in a very talented infield. In due time, this kid could be a special player."
