He played Vienna Little League for the Mets and was a 12 year-old all-star. Evan played Vienna Babe Ruth and was an all-star all three years. He received the Scott Sloan Award from Vienna Babe Ruth. He played for the AAU Hawks one season. Last summer Evan was a key player at the plate and as a catcher for the Vienna Mustangs in the Old Dominion League and in the National High School Championship Tournament in Louisville, KY. He played this fall for the Mustangs and participated in showcase camps. At Madison, Evan played catcher for the JV Warhawks as a freshman and sophomore. He joined the Varsity Warhawks after the JV campaign as a sophomore and was a member of the varsity team as they won the 2002 State Championship tournament. As a junior on the varsity, Evan played the outfield last season and backed up All-Met Player of the year, catcher Matt Foley. Evan also appeared as a pinch hitter. He is poised for an outstanding senior season behind the plate and as a hitter for the Warhawks. Evan's thoughts on the Season: "Our team has the determination and drive to win championships. It's all within our grasp." Coach Gjormand on Evan: "Evan has worked extremely hard over the past year to improve his entire game. Behind the plate he receives and handles pitchers very well. With the bat, Evan has done a great job of improving his power and ability to hit to all fields. The area in which I think Evan has made the biggest jump is in his leadership. He is a tough hard nosed kid who loves to get after it. He never backs down to the task in front of him and the younger players respect that. I look for Evan to have a huge senior season and he may even surprise himself. He is a big piece to the '04 puzzle."
