As a 15 year-old John played on the Hawks travel team.  Last summer and fall John was a key pitcher for the Vienna Mustangs and pitched  two games, including a shut-out, in the National High School Championship Tournament in Louisville, KY. John pitched a lot of key innings for the Mustangs this fall.

At Madison, John  played baseball for the District Champions JV team as a freshman and  sophomore.  John was the ace of the staff as a sophomore for the JV team.  As a Junior, John was a member of the Regional and District Champion Varsity Warhawks. During the Spring Break Tournament John pitched two scoreless innings against St. Johns Prospect Hall in a Warhawks win. He worked hard this winter to prepare for this campaign including participating in a College Pitcher's preparation program at Battery Park.

John's thoughts on the Season: "Our hard work and determination in the off-season will allow us to succeed this year."

Coach Gjormand on John: "John is a returning left-handed pitcher for us who has worked extremely hard to develop into a guy that will give us great depth on the mound. He has done a very good job this off-season in showing our young pitchers how to "get after it" to prepare for this year’s run. He should play a major role in helping us get people out, coming in as a middle reliever from our bullpen. I expect John to help lead this team to achieving our goals in ’04."
